(photo caption) This 17-foot-high Celtic cross was placed this week in the plaza of St. John the Apostle and Evalngenist Parish Downtown. The blue Tennessee granite is engraved with Celtic designs and is backed by a black granity wall engraved with the names of the project's sponsors. Archbishop Paymond L. Burke will bless the cross after the 10:30 a.m. Mass Sunday March 13 (2005). The cross project was led by St. John parishioner Joe McGlynn and a committee of St. Louis Irish that included Father Wm. Barnaby Faherty, SJ, and Father Jay Johnson. John Scott was the sculptor.
